Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red is the beautiful and emotive art installation at the Tower of London, marking one hundred years since the first day of Britain’s involvement in the First World War.

Beneath the iconic tower, 888,246 ceramic poppies fill the moat with a red blanket of petals; each individual poppy represents a British military fatality during the war.

The poppies were created by ceramic artist Paul Cummins, with setting created by stage designer Tom Piper.

The visual spectacle provides a stunning sight for reflection. The physical scale of the installation highlights the magnitude of the centenary and provides a beautiful scene for quiet reflection and commemoration.

The poppies have already been sold and, when the installation closes on November 11th, proceeds will be shared equally amongst six service charities – Cobseo, Combat Stress, Coming Home, Help for Heroes, The Royal British Legion and SSAFA.
